Forget Ben Bernanke; as Salon’s Broadsheet points out, Time hasn’t had a single female “Person of the Year” since it changed the title from “Man of the Year” in 1999 (and the last time a woman got the title was in 1986, when Corazon Aquino was named “Man of the Year.”)

They asked feminist bloggers for some suggestions. My favorites? Hillary Clinton (duh), Sonia Sotomayor, Rachel Maddow, and, as Feministing‘s Ann Friedman put it, “Rah rah ah ah ah roma romama gaga ooh lala. Duh.”

Nice.

God, what does someone have to do to be Person of the Year? Get on the Supreme Court or something? Or become Secretary of State during war time? Or be the best political commentator of our generation?

    Godammit.

BTW, I'd rather my ire not be relegated to the Ladies Pages, (er, I mean, feminist blogs) where no decision-maker will ever read it.

    Can I get a witness?

Hillary, Sotomayor, and Maddow? To paraphrase the old Virginia Slims ad, you've got a long way to go, baby.
  • *and that third e as well
  • Now if they had asked feminist *musicians* the last one would have likely beeen omitted.
