1. While we’re busy analyzing and over-analyzing the election results tonight, those who were actually elected will be hanging out in the lobby of the Paramount Theater, shaking hands and talking about their plans.
The Seattle Theatre Group is hosting a reception for Mayor-elect Mike McGinn and KC Executive-elect Dow Constantine at the Paramount tonight. If you have a burning question for either of these two electeds, this event is for you.
It’s free, and there will be appetizers.

2. The Northwest Film Forum is currently showing The Passion of Anna, Ingmar Bergman’s 1969 film about love and suspicion and lies.
In a nutshell: Andreas meets Anna, sleeps with Anna’s friend, then dates Anna, who thinks she’s keeping a big secret from Andreas. But Andreas knows all along. And as if that weren’t enough, there’s a shady character walking around torturing animals.
Apart from the emotional roller coaster, the film is gently idiosyncratic—it frequently interrupts itself to include interviews with the actors about their character’s motivations. And as far as the cinematography, it’s as pretty to look at as it is, at times, sort of painful to watch.
Today, tomorrow, and Wednesday at 7 pm, at the Northwest Film Forum. Tickets are $9.
3. The Hidden Cameras got noticed because they wrote songs that were sexually explicit (lots of bad words and references to gooey stuff) but really poppy. On their latest, they’ve toned down the language a little bit, but the songs are just as tuneful. And, from what I hear, their live show is a lot of fun.

4. The Parks Levy Oversight Committee is meeting tonight at City Hall. The all-volunteer committee was set up all the way back in 2000, to advise the Parks Commissioner and the Mayor on how parks levy money is spent by the city.

Did they move the Parks’ Department? Last time I was there, HQ was on the west side of Denny Park, on Dexter Ave. N.
I attended the STG event at the Paramount tonight… it was super lame (but thanks for the food and chocolate truffles). No engagement process. No Q&A. No real anything to show for it. At least 100-150 excited arts folks showed up and their was no real outcome or effort on the part of either elected official to engage the group beyond the usual political stumping and photo ops.
The crowd already knows and has a relationship with Dow but McGinn is a total unknown to the arts community. He missed a big opportunity to establish an open relationship with the crowd. If he is going to be all about citizen engagement/empowerment/input/open sourcing then he needs to find real ways in integrate it into his “I’m showing up and giving a speech because I’m the Mayor” appearances.
He missed an opportunity to establish himself as a different kind of Mayor. Instead, he just left me feeling confused and disappointed and wondering why I showed up. Which is hard to do because I am a totally Gung-ho supportive kinda person about these things. I’m hoping he lands on some tactics for public appearances and public relations that integrate better with his ideals and vision.
