War of the Worlds (Byron Haskin, USA, 1953)

It’s too hot to be outside today.  Easy solution:  Go to the movies.

As part of an ongoing Golden Age of Sci Fi series, Grand Illusion Cinema is playing the original War of the Worlds this week.

In there, only the cities on the screen will be on fire.

Plays through Thursday at 7 & 9PM.

It is amazing to me how people in the NW complain for 9 months about the lack of sun and then are so quick to bitch about the “heat”. Its 85 today… get your pale asses out in the sun. Tomorrow it might be 57 and cloudy.

@1–Agree…especially with that last sentence. Ballard viking lady in my van pool has been complaining about the whether all summer and is pining for rain and low ceilings. Gawd I’m getting sick of it.

  3. Josh Feit says:

    Dudes,
chill (ha), it was a quickie conceit for a 50-word tip on a movie where the bad guys blow stuff up w heat rays.

For the record, I did not go to the movies last night. I sat outside, ate pho, and wandered around downtown.

If you’re excited about the weather AND movies, check out last week’s post about outdoor cinemas:
