I just called Seattle City Council Member Sally Clark’s office about a rumor I heard today—that she was thinking about jumping into the mayor’s race against Greg Nickels.

Her office did not dismiss the rumor. “Sally will not be making an announcement in the foreseeable future,”  a spokesperson told me.

They would not, however, define “foreseeable future.”

The current field includes: Incumbent Mayor Gregg Nickels; Sierra Club leader (and biker) Mike McGinn; former Sonic James Donaldson; and matchmaking service founder, Norman Sigler

And everyone is still waiting on former City Council Member Peter Steinbrueck to say whether he’s in or out.

    NO NO NO NO NO

    Not another Nickels Junior.

Great example of the Peter Principle.

What, is Al Runte not available as the inconceivable alternative candidate? Sally Clark is aware that Mayor is not an appointed position, right?

    Oh, I could go on…..

  3. Trevor says:

Has she accomplished ANYTHING of note since being appointed the Council?

  4. Mac Giver says:

She has occupied the council’s lesbian chair with distinction. There has been no scandal about her dating a man that I am aware of.

  5. David Miller says:

Sally isn’t flashy or self-promoting, both of which are reason enough to consider her for the job.

Among the things she can be proud of is turning back Nickels’ top-down neighborhood planning proposal nearly single-handedly. While the outcome isn’t perfect, we’re headed in a much better direction than we otherwise would have been if she would have rolled over.

Every month that goes by, I think Sally gets a better understanding of the disconnect between reality and the storytelling the executive too often feeds Council. She’s increasingly a valued asset on Council as far as I’m concerned.

She’s done more campaigning than most over the last six yeras because of how she got her job, so I’d be surprised if she jumped on board for the Mayor race. I think she’s enjoying this 4-year stretch of not having to campaign.
